CAO America

CAO America

  • Dark Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro and lighter Connecticut Shade Capa wrapper leaves.
  • Longfiller Ligero tobaccos from Nicaragua, Italy, USA, and Dominican Republic.
  • Bound in Brazilian Leaf.
  • Seven months in personal humi.
  • Solid build, although a bit veiny.
  • Dry draw was easy with hints of leather.

1st Third: First noticed the ease of the draw. Very characteristic of other CAO cigars I have smoked in the past. As the cigar progressed in burn, I noticed the very white ash it produced with a nice even burn. The taste profile during this third of the cigar was dominated by nuts and leather. Small hints of coffee were in and out but i really had to pay attention to catch the those notes. Thus far this cigar has remained relatively smooth and enjoyable. The construction of the cigar has remained in tact. I was curious as to whether or not the two wrappers would become uncoiled during the smoke.

2nd Third: During the beginning of this third the ash fell off. However, I was pleasantly surprised that the construction still remained in tact and strong throughout. The double banded, barber pole wrapper never showed a single hint of separating. The ash maintained that bright white color and the burn remained very even. During this third, the flavor remained consistent. Nuts and leather dominated while hints of coffee and earth danced in and out. However, I did notice a tiny bit of spice now and then but not even close to the level of the coffee and earth flavors that intertwined with the nuts and leather.

Last Third: For the most part the flavors remained consistent, however, a slight pepper and a heavier coffee note did arise towards the end of the smoke. The dual wrapper construction remained strong until the end along with the even burn.

Final Thoughts:  Although advertised as a full body cigar in some circles, this is definitely a solid medium bodied cigar. Overall not very complex but gives you a consistent dose of a nutty and leather flavors. The hints of coffee were pleasant but the hints of spice now and then just felt out of place. This cigar was slightly creamy but not to the level of the Rocky Patel Edge Candela I reviewed last. I was impressed with the construction and burn, but, did find myself wanting thicker smoke billowing from my cigar. I think this is a slightly above average cigar, not great or elite. It just can't compete with those higher end stogies. For my pallet I rate this cigar a 6/10. Would I smoke this cigar again? Maybe, but i wouldn't buy a box.

Rocky Patel Edge Candela

Rocky Patel Edge Candela

  • One week spent in personal humi.
  • Solid, firm build.
  • Not overly veiny.
  • Drew easy after cut, and before lighting.
  • Slight grassy flavor.
  • Smoked the cigar while drinking a Jack and Coke.
1st Third: Had a smooth and easy draw, with an immediate decent billow of smoke. The first third maintained  a mild and slightly complex flavor. Hints of grass, earth, and wood dominated my pallet. Thus far has been a rather creamy smoke. Has maintained a nice and even burn and a strong ash.

2nd Third: Began smooth and maintained creamy taste, however, as the smoke progressed hints of spice began to creep into the already complex flavor. Pepper, grass, and wood flavors dominated most of this third. Moreover, it was during this portion of the cigar I noticed the effects of the nicotine. I felt as if i was taking in more nicotine during this portion of the smoke then in the beginning. It was almost as if it rushed  at me rather then gradually built. Towards the end of this third, I began to notice the creaminess flavor return and the spice diminish in intensity. The cigar began to burn uneven during this portion, however, it was corrected. Although, the ash remained strong.

Last Third: The last third maintained the creamy mild flavor which over all dominated the duration of the smoke. In fact, towards the end I noticed a slight sweetness. It was a good compliment to the grassy, earthy flavor. It was during this third the ash fell off. It was most likely due to placing my cigar down too rough. The burn maintained well in this third after my slight correction earlier.

Final Comments: Over all I do not have many complaints about the smoke. It was a medium body cigar that generally maintained a creamy and complex flavor. Flavors of grass, wood, and earth dominated this smoke while  hints of sweetness and spice made guest appearances. For my personal pallet this was a solid 6.5 out of 10. Others may rate it higher or lower depending on the flavors they prefer. I would recommend that anybody try this cigar. However, I do not feel it is one that should be bought in bulk.

Welcome

Welcome to Taylor's Puff Spot!!! This is just a simple blog I have created in order to pass along my thoughts on the various cigars that circulate the market today. There are many blogs just like mine, however every one's opinions, pallets, and ratings are different. When reviewing a cigar whether for purchase or just personal essay, it is beneficial to review the thoughts on the cigar from a multitude of angles. This will allow you smoker to get a more well rounded idea on the cigar in question. By no means do I consider myself a master on the subject of cigars. I am just a lover of fine tobacco and seek to make a small mark on the cigar world and help the men and woman like me who rely on these blogs to help further my knowledge. Feel free to leave feedback whether positive or negative. Moreover feel free to share your own experiences with cigars that I have reviewed on the blog. Thanks for visiting!!
